Current Affairs of Pakistan | Political History of Pakistan | A review of political history and economy of Pakistan

Pakistan consists of four provinces, all these provinces have their own cabinets in which chief minister are selected by cabinets and the he /she selects the ministers of his /her cabinets. Pakistan’s democracy is multi-party along with bicameral parliament consisting of National assembly and cabinet.

Political history of Pakistan has been dynamic with conflict in political parties that who will run Pakistan. In all historical time spans, Pakistan suffered a lot. Instead of being an Islamic country, the role of Islam in its history is controversial yet. From the time of its foundation, regional economic differences, political instabilities and religious fundamentalism had made Pakistan unstable and volatile. In 1960, most of the Asian countries that were lagging behind the Pakistan in most of economical and developmental area are now progressing far above the level of Pakistan.

Political instability:

As from the establishment of Pakistan 1947, it has been entrapped by governance shifts through regimes. Political instability leads country towards an economic fall.

Democracy and the importance of its implement are important for up growing economy.

Politics don’t value the interests of individual’s performance over their personal means. There are very few of political leaders who comprehend that the political authority is to work for the betterment of common people because public offices are the public places that are misused by the power and authority.

Democracy can’t be underestimated to ensure political stability which may lead to development.

Democratic government in Pakistan has been elected for five years since 1947 but regimes changes the course of political history.

Pakistan was established on ideology which can’t be ignored in role of development of Pakistan. Political workers must keep in view their first obligation. Democratic government can lead Pakistan to economic development.

Politics and Economy of Pakistan:

years GDP Rate
2018 6.15 %
2019 2.50%
2020 -1.27%
2021 6.49%

Political instability has ruin Pakistan’s economy. Ups and downs in politics have put Pakistan’s development in a lurch.

Pakistan’s reserves are reduced in last two decades due the pandemic. According to World Bank, in financial year 2020 GDP shrink by 1.5%.

Political situation has deep effect over economic development. The continual political wrangling resulted in scaling down of the objectives by November 2021 to cool down overhead economy to address trade deficit.

Due to political crisis, Pakistan’s economy is dampened. The production and trade of objects by Pakistan more than Asian countries like Philippine, Malaysia, and Indonesia in 1960s has been reduced instead of uprising.

In comparison to 1960s, the trade of these objects and production in Pakistan now is estimated almost $23 billion while it must be now over $100 billion. In last few decades, decrement in Pakistan’s economy is a sad metaphor because political instability sink Pakistan into debts and Pakistan is now more dependent on IMF or the foreign debts which leads to its slow growth.

As per statement of Ishrat Hussain the poverty grew by 18% in decade of last 90s due to regime changes and poor governance.

Way Forward:

Democratic Government and a stable government are will be of worth importance for resolving the hurdles in way of economy.

All political leaders must concern the downfall of economy as well as its effect over people. They must make a forward block to sharpen the economic growth so that Pakistan may develop.
